Latest: I’m running for San Rafael Mayor in 2028

It's great to be here! Hello, my name is Mahmoud A. Shirazi. I am running for mayor of San Rafael in 2028. There are many important issues facing our community. Together we can bring the change that this town deserves and needs.

In 2028, San Rafael will have been my home for 50 years: half a century. I look forward to the opportunity to serve it. It would be an honor and a joy.

Top issues

Revitalization, rehabilitation, and rebeautification. From day one in office, I will be seeking to bring together a consensus to implement solutions to these issues in San Rafael.

Meet Mahmoud Shirazi

San Rafael · 50 years in 2028

A neighbor with business experience

Mahmoud Shirazi brings a powerful blend of expertise to the mayoral race. With degrees in Mathematics and Business, he offers decades of business acumen.

More than just an experienced leader, Shirazi is deeply committed to the pulse of San Rafael — his dedication involves engaging residents directly to understand their pressing issues and leveraging that insight to foster sustainable city growth. He is the owner operator of a small mini market store at 842 B Street in Downtown San Rafael.

Economic development

Every city benefits in two ways from encouraging business growth. Currently, the growing vacancy rate is causing the City of San Rafael to lose revenue on both of those fronts, and it is getting worse.

  1. Licenses and related items Businesses need to apply for licenses and other related items to open shops.
  2. Sales tax share Businesses collect sales taxes from transactions, and the city gets its share.

From day one, I will focus on working with business leaders in the community to bring businesses back to San Rafael, to help turn around the decay that is attacking the city finances.

From the campaign

Revitalization: bring downtown back to life

Empty storefronts, lost revenue, and a plan to bring businesses back.

Rehabilitation: repair what has been neglected

City finances, empty buildings, and neighbors who need a way back.
